Young people are setting themselves ablaze in the Maghreb to protest dire economic prospects. What should governments do to address the problems and create jobs?
Firstly, reduce the gap in salaries between senior and junior staff… Some senior employees receive huge salaries without performing duties that deserve such a pay… whereas some junior staff are assigned harder tasks that go beyond their pay… Secondly, reduce the number of positions monopolized by senior employees who receive salaries that could be used to hire a large number of unemployed young people… Most of these senior officials are old, and do not have the educational qualifications needed for their positions… We should also eliminate the phenomenon of ghost employees who are paid without performing any duties….and who only show up when needed.
As far as I know, they are in the Hellfire, because that’s suicide, suicide, suicide. Don’t tell me it’s for the sake of the homeland or due to injustice. So now anyone subjected to injustice should just set himself ablaze? How were things in the era of the Prophet, peace and prayers be upon him? How were they? Stop the nonsense, that’s mere suicide.
People are tired, while their rulers and kings are happy. The question that arises now is: Why does this sadism exist? ….. Await Allah when you worship Him.
Libya is destroyed by self-proclaimed rebels, who are in fact far from being free. The devil is controlling them, and they are wreaking havoc in Tripoli and everywhere. Glory be to Allah. The Transitional Council and its government are distracted, and they are enjoying comfort in the most luxurious hotels, along with their entourage, the mercenaries. We also got more luxurious mercenaries; may Allah protect us from the evil of those opportunists. All we got from them so far is promises, lies, corruption in the country, and murder; while they are enjoying wealth. Allah is sufficient, and He is the best Protector against all thieves… For your information, I have been against Kadhafi for years, just so that no one says that I sound like one of his supporters. I am a free Libyan woman, and I hate everyone in charge of the country right now, because none of them has clear plans, especially those who had been living abroad. They only remembered Libya now, and they came back. May Allah take care of you, Libya.
I think that authorities in any country worldwide should take into account what achieves peace and safety, i.e. respecting and satisfying the demands of the youth. That’s simply my opinion.
The Libyan government can pacify the country if the governors satisfy the following conditions: 1 – Fear Allah in the way they govern the country by obeying the orders of Allah and His Messenger. 2 – Respond to the demands of the Libyan people, and hire the graduates of the last 15 years. 3 – Rebuild the country, and restore safety and security as soon as possible, so that people can enjoy stability without fearing the future due to the ongoing clashes in the country.
Popular demands and governmental reforms are two different things. For instance, people demand participation, their census in order to know their rights, and the rule of law. As for the governments, they think that they received commandments from above. Our nation, and our Arab identity.
It’s not possible to pacify Libya without the disarmament of the militias that are spread in the country under any name, even by force. We can bring the Blue Helmets or Arab-African forces to impose security, since the state failed to do that. People carrying heavy weapons are not rebels; they are opportunists seeking power by force of arms, which are stolen from the warehouses of the poor Libyan people. Thank you.
Self-immolation can be considered a “Bouazizi” trend, or probably a new revolutionary philosophy spreading in the Arab world. This trend is mainly due to the fact the Arabs in general, and Maghreb people in particular, consider that life is worthless of living, in light of conditions that threaten humans in the brightest manifestation of their existence, i.e. their bodies. People want to find a reason to die, in order to eliminate their bodies from their countries. When death doesn’t come, they accelerate it by setting themselves ablaze, as an expression of their categorical rejection of reality. The latter is a fire devouring the lives of young people, who can’t but let this fire turn from a symbolic framework into sparks devouring their bodies to rid them of their chains. The value of life drops below zero, and that’s really painful. By providing work, can young people stop from embracing the Bouazizi trend? By providing housing, marriage and education, can the image of life change and become less bleak? I don’t think so, as the matter is inherent, and existential… It’s related to the initial understanding of life. The Arab mind is surrounded by inherited pain… It’s robbed… violated… and risks falsification at any moment… Even democracy will not be salvation… What we really need is declare a real revolution on the structure of the Arab mind to re-draft it anew away, and according to other data and different conditions…
Peace. The governments should do the following: 1) Hold accountable those who plunder public money, then link responsibility with accountability. 2) Ensure the supremacy of the law. 3) Guarantee justice for the oppressed. 4) Change the law of public administration, and make it in favor of citizens and the homeland. 5) Change the labor law to guarantee the rights and obligations of all parties without prejudice. Investors invest their money, and workers invest their time, physical strength and knowledge, i.e. their production. The labor law should also ensure the continuing training of workers, and change the promotion system left by colonialism, 5, 10, 15, and 20%, as well as family allowances and compensation for children and for job loss. 6) The law should allow everyone to meet top officials such as ministers, workers and others. If these officials refuse to receive citizens, they should be tried. 7) The State should engage in dialogue with jobless people, and give them real, specific promises in time and space. These promises should be written, and oral instructions should be abolished. Instructions should be written and public, unless they pertain to state secrets. 8) The judiciary should be effective, fast, and good; and that requires an increase in human resources, especially judges. 9) Security bodies should be in the service of everyone, and at the disposal of citizens. 10) Everyone should know their rights and duties. That’s the solution. Allah is the guarantor of success.
Peace be upon you. We need to eliminate the armed military militias immediately; establish a free well-trained and well-armed national army to face anyone who dares abuse the current achievements of the Libyan revolution; observe the state’s actions, and protect it politically; and conduct free and fair elections, while teaching people how to take part in them, since they forgot how to a long time ago, even if that requires the intervention of international peacekeeping forces, i.e. the blue helmets, in order to eliminate the armed individuals who are controlling the state, spread justice and expand the influence of the Libyan government on all cities. Thank you.
Only Allah, the Unique, the Subduer, burns with fire. In the Qur’an, it is forbidden to kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. These people committed suicide by self-immolation, and Allah values the human soul. One who kills oneself without right will be held accountable for his act, and he will be asked about it. This shows weak faith, and that we’ve gone astray from our religion. May Allah have mercy on us, Allah willing.
May Allah guide our young people, amen. We are enduring these calamities because we went astray from Islam and the Sunnah. I wish that before they set themselves ablaze, young people would remember what they’d go through in the grave, worldly punishment or punishment of the afterlife.
I would like to talk about unemployment. I’m one of those graduates who couldn’t find a job, and that made me do many good and bad things. I hope that people who can create job opportunities will hurry to reduce the prevailing unemployment in the entire world; otherwise chaos and bad morals will spread. In fact, many young men and women commit forbidden things due to unemployment, in order to ensure stability for themselves. I urge all officials to respect the demands of the jobless youth.
The Libyan government should prepare the army in order to ensure safety and security in the country, and put an end to the armed factions that carry out unauthorized activities. They should catch up on lost time in order to avoid the spread of chaos and murder in the country.
The problem has been solved in Libya. Officials should be given the opportunity to rebuild what was destroyed. Be patient, Libyans. We will overcome this stage.
This is a logical analysis by brother Ali Meghazi. I would like to add another important aspect, namely the defeatism haunting Arabs. This complicates things for anyone who sincerely wants to change the bitter reality of Arab peoples. We need to treat souls before tackling economic and political issues
Libyans should be patient with the situation in Libya. The country had been destroyed over 42 years, so it’s impossible to build it overnight. It’s neither possible nor reasonable to throw all the blame on the Transitional Council, because those people sacrificed their positions for the sake of Libya. Dr. Mustafa Abdul Jalil, Dr. Mahmoud Jibril, Dr. Ghouka, and other Libyans, didn’t need to risk their lives since the beginning of the revolution on February 17th, when the tyrant was still powerful and mighty. So let’s blame ourselves instead. Each Libyan is responsible for building the free Libya. If each individual returned to work, and forgot about the sit-ins that only ignite strife among people, Libya would have been better than it is now. Libya will improve, Allah willing, but that requires a long time. We can shorten the needed time by collaborating with each other, and forgetting useless demonstrations and sit-ins that only worsen and complicate things… I hope that Libyans will start with themselves, and assume the responsibility of building Libya, instead of looking at other opportunists and people who ignite sedition. May Allah protect Libya from all evil. A free woman from Zintan.
Unfortunately we have to notice that ?Arab" countries are the only ones where upholders of Power are stuck in the armchair of their reign (the whole I) without sharing it, whether this armchair is a royal or a republican one. Even in this last case, Power became dynastic, fortunately there was the Arab Spring.
These rulers only and mainly think about ensuring the wealth and welfare of their children and friends. The young people, the other citizens and/or subjects may set themselves ablaze or die in the sea, they don’t even care.

To prevent or rather stop this phenomenon, we need to use religion as a foundation and to establish good communication with them. We must avoid promises and always tell the truth, even when this truth is quite bad, because these young are not stupid, and there is no place left for dictators.

Libya will calm down with the outbreak of a second war. Then, the cowards who carry weapons in the streets, and shoot bullets in the air, will hide.
