About Zawaya

Zawaya is a service of Magharebia.com. Every week, we present a topic for discussion and solicit the opinion of distinguished panellists. You are then invited to comment on the current topic and enrich the discussion. Our goal is to create a space for thoughtful dialogue.

Zawaya aims to create a space for thoughtful discussion about topics that interest Magharebia’s readers and the readers in the region in general. Every week, we will present a discussion topic drawn from Magharebia’s coverage or events in the region. The topic is presented in the form of a question put to a select group of intellectuals, journalists, academics and other individuals with insight into Maghreb political, social and economic affairs. These Panellists are asked to submit an opinion offering an interesting and engaging perspective. Readers are then invited to join the discussion by commenting on these contributions and on the current topic.

Zawaya's goal is to create a space for a healthy discussion on important issues affecting the region. Opinions expressed by the panellists are reprinted as is, and do not reflect or represent the opinion of Magharebia or its sponsor, the US Africa Command.
